In January 2002, prior to the start of the F1 season, I was invited by new major sponsor Vodafone to spend two days with the Ferrari team while they were testing at the Mugello track in Italy. Vodafone was attempting to film a large-budget commercial at the same time and we had a cast of thousands of Ferrari fans, or ‘tifosi’ as these superfans are known. It was an ambitious project; the basic idea was to fake a Grand Prix. This photo is of Michael Schumacher, in the year he became world champion for the fifth time, leaving the Ferrari pit at the start of testing. I can still remember the incredible sound of the car as it screamed out of the pit lane, and later being drenched in champagne as we simulated the podium win, with the director deciding to have Schumacher fire the champagne in my direction: to the great amusement of the crew!
